Payments & Fees
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?

What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?

Invoices are for the seller success fee or Buyer Protection fee, while the receipt is a document with details about the transaction between the buyer and the seller.

How do I know if I, as a seller, have to pay VAT on the sale of my object?

If you are a professional seller, you will need to determine the VAT treatment of your sales yourself. Unfortunately, VAT rules are too complex for Catawiki to determine the VAT treatment of every sale. If you need help in determining the VAT treatment of your sales, please consult a tax adviser or an accountant or check with your local tax authority. For exports to the UK or EU where Catawiki is the deemed supplier, we will collect the VAT from the buyer at checkout.

Why do I, as a seller, no longer have to indicate whether my object is used or new?

Until July 2018, Catawiki would ask you, as a seller, to indicate whether your object was used or new, so we could produce an invoice with the correct VAT treatment of the sale of your object. Because Catawiki no longer produces an invoice for the sale of your object for auctions ending from 1 July 2018 onwards, it is no longer necessary to provide us with this information.

As a seller, will I receive a receipt for each object I sell?

Catawiki will send a receipt directly to the buyer. For each object you sell, you will also have a receipt. You can find the information about your sold objects in your Catawiki account.

Will VAT be stated on the receipt?

In most cases the receipt only includes the purchase price and the shipping costs. Only for applicable orders, where we are legally required to collect VAT on the final bid prices and shipping costs, the VAT will be stated on the receipt.

Is it possible to receive an invoice without VAT for the Catawiki seller success fee?

Yes, if you are (i) an EU professional seller, or (ii) a private or professional seller based outside the EU. If you are an EU professional seller based outside the Netherlands, 'reverse charge' will be applicable. In that case, you will receive an invoice of the seller success fee (12.5% and an additional fixed amount) without VAT whereby the 'reverse charge' will be explicitly stated on the invoice. If you are a private or professional seller based outside the EU, you will receive an invoice for the seller success fee (with VAT charged or not charged depending on local tax rules).

If you are an EU private seller or buyer, you will receive an invoice including VAT.
