Exclusive African Art Auction (Private Collection)

Auction with lots from the Westerdijk Family Collection Again, we have brought together in this second private collection sale a selection of rare pieces that for a long time formed part of the nucleus of the Westerdijk Family Collection. Our intention hereby has been, just like the first time, to offer collectors good quality items. As passionate collectors ourselves, we enjoyed the thrill of the chase – even more so as that of the purchase. Both my mother and my father, both deceased now, participated in this effort, collecting not just hundreds but literally thousands of African objects in various materials over the decades. We collected pieces in a time that prices were still fairly low and we had discovered the ways to sources that contained such items in great numbers. Instead of buying solely in top end galleries and auction houses of fame, we focussed on obtaining items straight from other collectors and from people who had inherited them from their original owners. We had to follow this route, not entirely out of free choice, but because our means did not allow us to do otherwise. We hope to bring fellow- collectors into contact with great quality pieces. May they enjoy these items in the same manner we have enjoyed them in our own home. Dr. P. Westerdijk
