What Makes Catawiki the Place to Sell Extraordinary Items?

You might think “It will never happen to me!” until one day, rummaging in an old box you discover a first edition book from the 1800s or - perhaps as one fisherman recently made the news with - the world’s largest pearl under your bed! At that point you think “What on earth can I do with this?”

Using the auction

I enjoy researching the origins of our auction items.

Rob Meershoek is mainly self-taught. He started buying and selling items at markets and fairs more than 25 years ago. By investing heavily in specialist literature, he succeeded in continuously expanding his knowledge. He quickly specialised in 20th-century ceramics and, together with his wife, set up his own art dealership. Rob has since acquired extensive knowledge, which mainly comes from experience. And he still enjoys the research required to determine the origins of objects.

This enthusiasm comes in handy for his work with Catawiki. He sees the auctioneer as a filter between the supplier and the actual auction. That filter is particularly important in the field of ceramics and glass. It ensures beautifully presented auctions and excludes replicas or damaged items.
