I love that you can find a story inside and outside of the book. What story is the writer telling you? And what is the story of the book itself; who was its previous owner?

As a little girl, Zena Chiara would wander around her family’s grand attic library, captivated by the book bindings, typography and papers on display. Curious to understand the stories within the covers, she taught herself how to read by the age of four. Reading remains her greatest passion, and books became her life’s work. Zena Chiara started her university studies as an art historian, but was so drawn to books as physical objects that she graduated in Bibliography. She then deepened her studies with a course on the History of Printed Books, specialising in Renaissance in Venice era. Born and raised in Italy, her father’s Middle Eastern background inspired her to explore Classical Arabic. After working at Biblioteca Trivulziana for over three years, she subsequently worked at an antiquarian specialising in books and at an Oriental Art Gallery as a reference librarian for their specialised library. At Catawiki, Zena Chiara appreciates working in an international and passionate environment alongside highly qualified colleagues within her field of expertise. She specialises in Incunabula (pre-16th century books) and XVI century editions (especially in Venice) as well as Arabic manuscripts, books and book bindings.
