“I was also a music critic for 15 years, specializing in the bridges between music and contemporary art for several magazines and I hope that gives me a fresh perspective.”

Stephen’s family instilled in him a love of art from an early age. His grandfather was a donor to the Picasso Museum in Antibes, and every Sunday young Stephen visited it and the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul de Vence to admire the great works. After graduating from one of Paris’ leading art schools, Stephen worked in a number of the city’s most prestigious galleries, such as Yvon Lambert, Karsten Greve, Jennifer Flay (FIAC art fair director) and the Centre Pompidou, before owning and running his very own gallery. Stephen brought his extensive knowledge of contemporary pop art to Catawiki in 2019, and still feels like a kid in a candy store every day with the incredible lots he gets to review. So far his favourites have included a lithography by a young Andy Warhol, and Karl Lagasse’s Kriptogramme.
