Scammers use emails or text messages to impersonate Catawiki and to trick you into giving them your personal information such as your Catawiki password or credit card information. While these emails may look as coming from us, there are a few things you can do to identify such emails and protect yourself.

Verify if the message is sent from another email domain

All emails from Catawiki are sent from one of the following email domains:

@mailing.catawiki.com

@service.catawiki.com

@catawiki.com

@catawiki.nl 

If a Catawiki email comes from another domain, for instance a public one such as @gmail.com, a misspelt domain such as @catqwiki.com or a wrong domain extension such as @catawiki.tw, this is a Phishing email.

Verify if the message includes suspicious attachment(s)

We do not send any attachment such as pdf or microsoft office documents in our emails. If an email appearingly coming from us contains such an attachment, do not open it as this is a Phishing email.

Verify if the message creates a sense of urgency

Phishing emails often tell a story to trick you into clicking on a link or opening an attachment. Scammers know that creating a sense of urgency in the email, such as you need to pay customs fees quickly or your order will be returned, increases the chances of having a person acting without verifying the sender. 

They may, for instance:

• Claim there’s a problem with your account or your payment information
• Say you must confirm some personal information
• Include a fake invoice
• Want you to click on a link to make a payment
• Say you’re eligible to register for a refund
• Offer a coupon for free stuff

While Catawiki may send you promotional offers customised to your wishes, if the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
