What is Catawiki’s content moderation approach?

We're committed to providing our users with a positive and safe online auction experience. To ensure this, we employ content moderation practices that help maintain a trusted, respectful, and engaging environment for all. To moderate our content, we use both automated and human moderation.

Prior to listing

Before any objects are listed on our platform, they undergo a review process. The object specifics, description and photos (and, where applicable any other documentation such as proofs of provenance) are reviewed to ensure they comply with our acceptance and submission guidelines and don't contain any illegal or harmful material.

During the auction

From the moment the object is in auction until it’s sold, we maintain a watchful eye on our online marketplace to address any issues that may arise. In exceptional cases, we may amend or remove content, which could include the entire listing, if it violates applicable laws and regulations, our guidelines or contains errors that significantly impact the listing. For instance, we might change a description if it contains an erroneous spelling mistake or a bad machine translation that could mislead potential bidders.

Post-auction reviews

After the object is sold, users can leave reviews to share their experience. While we encourage honest and constructive feedback, we may amend or remove reviews that contain personal data, profanities, or obvious errors. This helps maintain a respectful and accurate community review system. Read more about this in our review policy.

We understand that content moderation can be complex and we strive to strike a balance between maintaining a trusted, safe, and positive environment while also allowing for our users to sell and buy their special objects. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to our guidelines and contributing to a thriving online auction community.
