At Catawiki, we have specific guidelines to ensure objects submitted by sellers are suitable for listing. These guidelines safeguard quality, uniqueness, safety, and compliance with applicable laws. Our policies are designed to maintain a safe and transparent platform for all users.
This document focuses on prohibited and restricted objects across all categories. These include items that are illegal, conflict with our values, or pose potential risks. Where necessary, additional conditions or documentation are required for certain restricted items.
Prohibited Items
Nudity and Mature Content
- Sexualisation and Endangerment of Minors
- Media depicting minors in sexual contexts or poses.
- Non-consensual imagery involving minors.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
- Pornography and Intimate Objects
- Pornographic media, including magazines without valid ISBNs.
- Used intimate objects or sex toys.
- Fetish content involving harmful or exploitative depictions.
- Bestiality and Exploitation
- Media depicting sexual activity involving animals.
- Prostitution or media offering sexual services.
Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco
- Drugs and Paraphernalia
- Controlled substances (e.g., marijuana, psilocybin, narcotics).
- Drug-related equipment, including bongs and vaporisers.
- Tobacco Products
- Cigarettes, cigars, and related paraphernalia.
Items Containing or Representing Hate and Violence
- Hate Speech and Propaganda
- Items promoting hate groups or terrorism.
- Objects glorifying violence or discrimination.
- Violent or Graphic Content
- Graphic imagery targeting protected groups or promoting dehumanisation.
- War memorabilia explicitly linked to hate organisations.
Animal Products (CITES) and Human Remains
- Endangered Species
- Objects violating CITES regulations, including ivory and other derivatives of protected species.
- Human Remains
- Any human remains or artefacts not compliant with applicable laws.
Dangerous and Hazardous Objects
- Weapons
- Concealed, modern, or illegal weapons, including replicas.
- Ammunition, explosives, and associated materials.
- Radioactive or Toxic Materials
- Radioactive minerals or asbestos-related items.
- Other Dangerous Items
- Items with inherent risks, such as sparklers or gases.
Illegal and Highly Regulated Objects
- Stolen or counterfeit items, and other objects that violate Intellectual Property rights of others.
- Currency or banknotes currently in circulation.
- Diamonds from sanctioned countries or conflict zones. For more information about loose diamonds, please refer to the Diamonds Submission Guidelines.
- In alignment with our service provider policies, we do not accept objects which are made, manufactured or sourced in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.
Restricted Items
Certain items are allowed under strict conditions:
- Alcohol
- Collectible alcohol must be appropriately labelled.
- Sellers and buyers must be aged 18+.
- Cultural Artefacts
- Requires documentation proving provenance and legal compliance. Please refer to the Archaeology Submission Guidelines for more information about Archaeology auctions.
- Weapons
- Non-functional, decorative, or historical weapons, provided they meet legal requirements.
- Graphic Content
- Mature depictions in art or literature require explicit content tags and may be restricted based on age or regional laws.
- Animal Products
- Items involving wildlife materials must comply with CITES and include proper documentation.
How to Report Non-Compliant Items
Users are encouraged to report objects that violate our guidelines via the reporting tool. The Trust and Safety team promptly reviews all reports and takes necessary action.
