Some sellers may offer giveaways during Catawiki Live. A giveaway is a promotional activity organised by a seller during a livestream. 

Giveaways give users the chance to receive a freebie if they meet the conditions announced by the seller.

Who organises the giveaway?

The seller organises the giveaway. This means the seller is responsible for:

• Explaining the giveaway rules
• Deciding what the giveaway object is
• Selecting the winner or winners, where applicable
• Contacting the winners
• Shipping or delivering the giveaway object
• Handling questions, complaints or disputes about the giveaway

Exception
To promote Catawiki Live and the giveaway feature, we may organise voucher campaigns  for first-time Catawiki Live buyers for a limited time.

These voucher campaigns are an exception to the general rule that giveaways are organised by sellers. They are organised directly by us.

For Catawiki voucher campaigns, we are responsible for making sure the voucher is correctly provided to you. All Catawiki vouchers are subject to the Catawiki Voucher Terms. 

How giveaways work

The seller should clearly explain the rules of each giveaway during the livestream. 

This should include:

• What the prize is
• How many prizes are available
• What you need to do to take part
• Whether the giveaway is based on chance or not
• When and how the winner or winners will be announced

A giveaway may work in one of two ways:

• Chance-based giveaway: one or more winners are selected by chance, for example through a draw or similar selection method
• Non-chance-based giveaway: every user who meets the conditions announced by the seller receives the giveaway object

The seller must follow the rules they announce. For example, if the seller says that the 5 highest bidders during the livestream will receive a free object, the seller must give the objects to those users.

Taking part in a giveaway

To take part in a giveaway, follow the instructions announced by the seller during the livestream. You will usually need to bid or otherwise participate directly in the livestream.

For example, if the prize is awarded to the highest bidder in Catawiki Live, you must place your bid through the livestream. Bids placed through the regular auction page will not count towards the giveaway.

Only take part in a giveaway if you understand the rules announced by the seller. If anything is unclear, you can ask the seller for more information during the livestream through the chat functionality. 

The seller may not ask you to pay any extra fee or otherwise charge you for your participation in a giveaway.

Shipping and delivery

The seller is responsible for shipping or delivering the giveaway object.

The seller must not charge you additional shipping costs. This means that:

• If the giveaway object is shipped together with an object purchased on Catawiki, the shipping price must stay the same as shown on the object page.
• If the giveaway object is shipped separately, the buyer must not be charged directly. The seller must cover the shipping cost.

If the giveaway object is shipped across borders, customs duties, taxes or import charges may apply depending on the destination country. The seller is responsible for accurate customs and tax declarations, but you may still be responsible for charges imposed by customs or tax authorities.

Where we organise a voucher campaign and the winner of a voucher is not also the winning bidder of an object sold during the livestream, Catawiki will digitally deliver the voucher directly to that winner using the contact details available in the winner's Catawiki account. Catawiki will not disclose the winner's personal data to the Seller (unless required by applicable law).  If the winner of the voucher campaign is also the winning bidder of an object sold during the relevant livestream, Catawiki may decide, at its discretion, whether the voucher is delivered by Catawiki or by the Seller (and always subject to applicable laws on data privacy).

If something goes wrong

If you have a question or complaint about a giveaway, raise it with the seller first.

This includes questions or complaints about:

• The giveaway rules
• How the winner was selected
• Whether you met the giveaway conditions
• The giveaway object
• Shipping or delivery
• Customs duties, taxes or other charges

We may help review or resolve a giveaway-related issue. If we choose to help, this does not mean we are responsible for the giveaway or its outcome. If you believe a giveaway is misleading, inappropriate or does not follow the rules, contact us so we can review it.
