Seller verification and data security

Keeping your info safe is our priority

We understand how important it is to keep your data safe, and work hard to provide a secure, trustworthy platform. With us, your data is always secure. Because of this commitment to your privacy, we hold our financial service partners to the highest safety standards.

Why do we ask sellers to verify their details?

Legislation was recently introduced in the EU to combat cyber crimes, and all online finance platforms and marketplaces must comply. We use our trusted finance partners Stripe and Payoneer, and are required to collect and verify info from our users regarding financial transactions on our platform.

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) also legally requires us to ensure that our financial partners protect your personal info. Your data safety comes first, and we certify that our partners meet exceptional security standards.

We’re honoured that you trust your info with us, and go to great lengths to protect your data.

Who are Catawiki’s financial service partners?

Stripe and Payoneer have been our financial service partners for several years and exceed the highest industry standards that corporate banks must adhere to. Their clientele include some of the world’s largest businesses, including Booking.com, Airbnb and Unicef.

We can assure you that your data is safely stored with them for verification purposes and protection against money-laundering. Your data is stored on maximum security servers, and is uploaded via a securely encrypted tunnel. This prevents any malicious third-parties from being able to access your data.

As soon as your data is no longer needed for verification purposes, it’s removed from storage with our partners.

Why weren’t sellers previously asked to verify their details?

This is a new legal requirement for all online EU marketplaces and financial service providers.

EU Anti-Money Laundering Directive 4/5. These regulations require us to collect and verify information about the "beneficial owners" of our users (Article 13), and to keep that information up to date.
