Misuse Policy

Catawiki is a curated online marketplace where trust and quality matter. To protect our community of buyers and sellers, we may take action when we detect or are informed of misuse, especially where it involves misleading object information, unlawful listings, or behaviour that violates our Terms or community standards.

How we assess misuse

We treat each case individually and apply fair judgment. Before taking enforcement action, we consider several factors, including:

  • The seriousness of the issue and the potential risk to users or to Catawiki
  • Whether the behaviour was intentional, careless, or accidental
  • Whether the behaviour is isolated or part of a recurring pattern
  • The overall impact on buyers, sellers, or marketplace integrity
  • Your account history and past performance

Examples of misuse

We understand that mistakes happen, and not every issue would lead  to enforcement. However, the following behaviours may be considered misuse, particularly if they are repeated or serious.

Misleading or unlawful listings

Listings may get flagged that appear misleading or do not meet our listing standards. This includes incomplete, inaccurate, or legally questionable object information. If we detect a pattern of problematic listings or receive reliable reports, we may take action on the account.

Intellectual property concerns

If we receive a valid report from an artist, brand, or rights holder claiming that their work is being listed without permission, we will investigate. In clear cases, we will remove the object and may issue a warning. Repeated or serious issues may result in permanent removal from the online marketplace.

Other prohibited behaviour
This includes using Catawiki for fraudulent purposes, attempting to manipulate auctions or breaching applicable laws or regulations.

What happens if action is taken

We may take different types of action, including:

  • A warning or educational reminder
  • Temporary or permanent suspension of your account
  • Removal of objects or content from the online marketplace

We decide what action to take based on the risk, account history, and impact of the behaviour.

Submitting notices in good faith

We encourage users to report suspicious or harmful activity. However, repeated abuse of the reporting process, such as filing false or unsupported claims, may result in restrictions on your account.
