Vivetta
This young Italian brand established only seven years ago in 2010 by fashion designer Vivetta Ponti, offers a contemporary take on vintage-inspired prints. Each piece, proudly crafted in Italy, manages to combine sophisticated Italian elegance with an element of fun and youth. From structured print t-shirts to silhouette fitted dresses, Vivetta plays with delicate yet pronounced patterns and femininity. It was after studying under Roberto Cavalli, that Ponti began making her own waves in the fashion world, which could perhaps explain the charmingly outlandish patterns used in her collection. Ponti’s admiration for dolls, antiques and vintage tapestries shines through her work with Vivetta’s signature fun-collared shirts and A-line skirts. What’s more, with a price range of only €200 – €1,500, Vivetta promises affordable luxury without breaking the bank. Vivetta is already making heads turn at Milan fashion week, so make sure you snap up these pieces before everybody else does!

Marques Almeida
In contrast to the delicate Vivetta, Marques Almeida fashion designers, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida, both believe that ‘fashion is about attitude, not hemlines.’ This statement is difficult to argue with once you cast your eyes on their raw, punk, street-attitude that oozes from their collection. Although Marques Almeida is most well-known for their denim pieces, with designers copying their oversize jackets with raw edges and frayed jeans, it was the sheer breadth and quality of their most recent collection that got people talking. From supersize necklaces to A-line floral skirts, their work boasts one statement piece after another. Having won the LVMH prize in 2015, the designers have been able to make a real investment in their brand this year and put their name on the map, which hasn’t gone unnoticed as they continue to grow with every season. If you are looking for elegant skater-girl streetwear that will make heads turn, this is the brand for you.

Vetements
The pioneers of street style, Vetements have elegantly deconstructed the fashion cycle with their focus on the ‘ordinary people.’ This Paris-based group of designers, who came together from houses such as Céline, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton have managed to redesign how we look and appreciate collections in 2017. Their strong focus on the individual piece, made all the impactful with their focus on creating a persona and backstory with each look, has helped redefine and rebrand luxury fashion. Their asymmetrical shapes and oversized womenswear is both raw and elegant at the same time, combining the designers love for high end fashion and the ‘ordinary people.’ This brand is one to watch this year as it continues to blow all fashion rules out the water.

Calvin Klein
I know what you’re thinking, what’s new about Calvin Klein? Raf Simons is the answer. Having left Dior as the creative director, he promised to shake things up at Calvin Klein, and boy we were not disappointed. His highly anticipated first show was only a few days ago, showcasing the brand’s total aesthetic rethink. With a real emphasis on individuality, breaking old criticism of the homogeneous nature of previous collections, Simons was able to stamp his name firmly on the brand. However, it was not only the clothes that started chinese whispers. Simons opened the show with four sobering words; ‘This is not America,’ describing the collection as a ‘celebration of diversity’ in a direct challenge to Trump. Calvin Klein may have been around a while, but under new management, it is definitely one to keep an eye on.
With fashion houses challenging politics and upcoming designers redefining the fashion cycle, 2017 promises to be an exciting year in fashion.
