Ever since the turn of the millennium, vintage is all the rage again. Today, 17 years later, this trend is just as popular. Industrial design is a great example of the vintage trend that has become more and more popular. But, a lot of people don't know that they have an industrial design item lying in their house somewhere and that it can be worth a lot of money. This article tells you what industrial design is and gives you examples of items that were sold well in our auction.
What is considered industrial design?
Many original industrial pieces of furniture were initially used in factories and subsequently ended up in a lot of peoples houses or garages. Nowadays people add industrial items in their home to make it look more cool and unique. Offices and hip restaurants use industrial elements too, to combine their modern interior with a robust look, for instance, large factory lamps. Now let's have a look which industrial design items we have auctioned off here at Catawiki.
1. Factory lamps
These old factory lamps are from the 60s-70s and built up quite a patina. Did you expect they would yield €420 for the seller in our auction?
Industrial items, like factory cage lamps, has been exposed to various environmental factors, which is why each item is unique. That is also why people want to pay a lot of money for an industrial item. These factory cage lights, for instance, were sold for €400,-.
2. Industrial furniture
Not only lamps are very popular in our auctions, also other industrial elements are highly sought after among our bidders. Have a look at this trolley, for instance. The seller perfectly illustrates how an industrial element can be combined with a homely interior. The yellow colour is a real eye-catcher. Are you curious to find out for what price this object was auctioned off? Found it out in our auction.
3. Industrial accessories
Even industrial accessories are highly sought after. This large industrial scissor, for example, was formerly used in a factory but is now presumably used as a decorative object. The scissor came in a pair and yielded €145 for the seller.
Now that you have read all our example, do you think you have an industrial item that can be worth something? Every two week, Catawiki organizes a special auction especially for industrial design. Your item can be offered in this auction as well by becoming a seller at Catawiki. It would be a waste to let that special item collect only dust in your garage.
