In collaboration with Christian Plat - Design Expert

Ever since the turn of the millennium, vintage is all the rage again. Today, 17 years later, this trend is just as popular. Industrial design is a great example of the vintage trend that has become more and more popular. But, a lot of people don't know that they have an industrial design item lying in their house somewhere and that it can be worth a lot of money. This article tells you what industrial design is and gives you examples of items that were sold well in our auction.

What is considered industrial design?

Many original industrial pieces of furniture were initially used in factories and subsequently ended up in a lot of peoples houses or garages. Nowadays people add industrial items in their home to make it look more cool and unique. Offices and hip restaurants use industrial elements too, to combine their modern interior with a robust look, for instance, large factory lamps. Now let's have a look which industrial design items we have auctioned off here at Catawiki.

1. Factory lamps
These old factory lamps are from the 60s-70s and built up quite a patina. Did you expect they would yield €420 for the seller in our auction?

Not only lamps are very popular in our auctions, also other industrial elements are highly sought after among our bidders. Have a look at this trolley, for instance. The seller perfectly illustrates how an industrial element can be combined with a homely interior. The yellow colour is a real eye-catcher.
