Most of us are familiar with German engineering and its association with high quality automobiles. We asked our model car expert what his top 5 favourite German model cars are in this week's special auction and these were his picks.
5. Sun Star - Scale 1/18 - Mercedes-Benz 600 1966
This car shouts "get out of my way - I am important!". It seems as though this Mercedes-Benz was designed to intimidate other motorists, and the black colour certainly helps give the car a menacing presence. You will not have a problem finding 'presidential parking' in the narrow roads of Germany's old cities with this car.
4. Truescale Models - Scale 1/12 - Porsche 911 1964
Another large model, but this time of the very first Porsche 911. Enthusiasts love the purity of the early Porsche 911, and that is why this model is one of our expert's favourites.
3. AMR - Scale 1/43 - Bitter Coupe 1984
It's hard not to love the shape of the Bitter and our expert has fallen for it as well. German engineering with Italian styling - what a combination - and to top it all off the colour is just right as well: Ferrari red!
2. Revell - Scale 1/18 - Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Heckflosse Type W111 1959
This is one of those iconic Mercedes-Benzs from the 1960s. The two-tone colour makes this model stand out from the crowd, and the sunroof completes the look. There is also a version available in black in the auction, for those who prefer their Mercedes-Benz to be more somber in colour.
1. CMC - Scale 1/18 - Mercedes-Benz LO 2750 Pritsche 1934 -1938
This is a very impressive model. It is huge, very detailed and is truly museum quality worthy of its own exhibit. These models have to be seen to be believed; the level of detail is incredible!
