Highlights from This Week's Cult Cars Auction

Nearly every car has a dedicated group of followers, but some have earned a special cult status over the years for one reason or another. This week we're hosting a special Cult Cars auction features many beautiful cult classics such as the Fiat 500, VW Beetle, Renault 4L, Citroen 2CV and many more. Today we’ll take a closer look at just 3 of the cars with a special story. Keep reading to find out what brought these unique cars into existence and how they came to Catawiki's auctions.

Heinkel Trojan 604
A hard-to-find cult classic, the iconic 'bubble car' car will always attract a lot of attention. German aircraft manufacturer Heinkel began constructing micro cars in 1956 to compete with the BMW Isetta. Production carried on under license after 1958 and exquisite examples such as this one were produced in Ireland under license by Trojan Cars Ltd.

This Trojan is in very good condition with receipt for restoration works; no expenses or effort were spared. The 1 cylinder, 198 cm3 capacity engine runs well. The paint is very sleek and the interior was completely renewed in 1994 and has very little wear.

Steyr Fiat 600
This car exudes 60s nostalgia with a lot of Italian flair. A rarity from a private museum, the Steyr Fiat is a special collector's item. This car turns heads on the road, and it certainly attracts a lot of attention from passers-by and spectators at classic car events. The Fiat 600 is, of course, a legend, but this Steyr Fiat 600, which was built under license, is a highly sought-after rarity. In addition, this car is a part of the Austrian car production heritage.

During the restoration of this car, a lot of time, love and attention to detail was invested, without compromising the original charm of the era. The car was built in 1955, the original documents from that time are still available. The previous owner had this car from 1955 to 1962 and subsequently sold it to its new owner, who drove it until 1990. In 2014, the car became part of a private museum in Vienna, where it was used for exhibitions, but it was also driven sometimes. It was extensively restored last winter. Especially its charming two-tone leather interior, which matches the exterior colour, just makes you want to hop in and drive away. Currently, there are several Fiat 600 for sale, but no known Steyr Fiat. Rarity, perfect for a driving experience of the 50s and 60s, or as an enjoyable collector’s item which will increase in value over time.

The MGB Roadster
The first car in the MGB range to be produced was the two-seater roadster. This beautiful roadster was in the possession of the same owner for 47 years and was sold in 2015 to a family member before coming up for auction. The MG is equipped with the reliable and strong 1800 cc engine with no less than 95 HP. The car has a gearbox with 4 gears and a well-functioning overdrive. The beautiful, fresh colour, “Sunset Orange”, in combination with black leather with white piping, give the MG a nice sporty appearance.

In early 2017 this MBG Roadster had an engine overhaul and has not been driven much since. The beautiful wire wheels are equipped with good tyres. The car drives, brakes and shifts as it should and the black Mohair soft-top was recently renewed.
