Do you remember some animated films or series from the pre-digital animation age? Nowadays most animation films are created digitally and the technique of hand-drawn animation is disappearing. The appreciation for the art and craftsmanship of traditional animation however, is still alive and well. Perhaps you were a fan of Hannah-Barbera cartoons or still enjoy the Disney classics. Now is your chance to own a piece of nostalgia and history from some of your favourite animated classics. Cawiki is hosting a special Original Animation Art auction that will run through the 17th of September. Keep reading to find out what unique and wonderful items will be up for auction and see if your favourite characters are there as well.
Snow White
One of the top lots in this auction is an original production cel from Disney's 1937 film 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' featuring the brightest and bubbliest character, Happy. Such cels were used in the filming of the movie and have been made available for purchase by Disney in limited quantities. If you're a Snow White fan, you'll be delighted to learn that there are several other items from the film in this auction including another 2 production cels used during filming available in this auction featuring the rabbit and turtle.
Steamboat Willie
Before Mickey Mouse was known as such, he appeared in his very first animated film as Steamboat Willie in 1928. This was also the first film with a synchronised soundtrack. Animator Ub Iwerks created this film entirely by himself and it turned out to be an instant success. The production drawing on auction from the third shot of the cartoon still has the old Disney peg holes with two perforations, making it a true piece of animation history!
Bambi
This Walt Disney Studio Original Watercolour from 'Bambi' (1942) shows Bambi's father on a Rock in the Wood is in the auction as well. 'Bambi' was Walt Disney's (1901-1966) personal all-time favourite. The three-time Academy Award nominated classic feature film was based on the book 'Bambi, A Life in the Woods' by Austrian author Felix Salten. The film was released by RKO Radio Pictures on August 13, 1942, and is the fifth Disney animated feature film.
The Jetsons meet the Flintstones
An original production cel featuring Fred Flintstone and George Slate from the 1987 Hannah-Barbera television special 'The Jetsons meet the Flintstones'. The cel from this two-hour special is accompanied by a hand-painted background, making it a so-called 'key setup' (production cell with matching background).
The Pink Panther
Another 'key setup' featuring the Pink Panther mid antics is in the auction as well as a few other Pink Panther original drawings and other pieces of original animation art from Hannah-Barbera studios.
Bugs Bunny
