The Catawiki Experience with Interior Design Specialist 'Interior Junkie'

Written by Simone | 20 June 2018

What happens when you buy a piece of design at Catawiki’s online auctions? Elisah from Interior Junkie was wondering the exact same thing. She decided to try it and shares her experience with us. Watch the unboxing video below to see what she bought.

Meet Elisah a.k.a Interior Junkie
Elisah is the original 'Interior Junkie', which is the name of her popular Dutch interior design blog. She used to be a freelance writer in the field of fashion, but got addicted to interior design after buying her dream house. After she applied for a job at an interior magazine and was turned down for being ‘too entrepreneurial’, so she decided to take matters into her own hands and started her own blog. Now, roughly five years later, the blog has become her full-time job.

Elisah's bidding experience

Elisah was searching for the perfect bar cart on Catawiki's Design auctions. She spotted three that she liked: one in the shape of a globe, a white baroque-styled bar cart with golden details and a minimalistic cart made of brass, but she liked the classic globe cart the most and placed her bid.

She placed an automatic bid, meaning that Catawiki's auction system would automatically raise the bid by the smallest amount required to ensure she remained the highest bidder. Automatic bids are handy because the system will continues to outbid any other bidders up to the maximum amount you've indicated and you won’t have to keep checking the auction and placing bids. It is very convenient if you’re unable to follow a lot during the final stages of an auction. Nevertheless, Elisah set her alarm for when the auction would end, and waited for the last second to bid…

Sadly, it turned out someone else placed an automatic bid as well, so she was immediately outbid again. That doesn’t mean that all is lost. When someone places a bid in the last minute, extra time is added to the clock. Unfortunately, even more bidders appeared. In a matter of minutes, the maximum amount she had in mind was reached, and she didn't win the item.

Luckily she came across another item she liked, and decided to place a bid on the unique pear-shaped lamp by Michelangelo Monte. This time, luck is on her side and she wins the item! After a quick shipping and unboxing video, the lamp now has a place on the sideboard in her living room.
