How to Determine the Value of Your Pink Floyd Memorabilia

Money: it’s a gas. According to Pink Floyd, anyway. But did you know you could generate some serious cash by selling your Pink Floyd memorabilia at auction? Our records/vinyl auctioneer, Jeroen Hamelink, offers some guidance for determining the value of your Pink Floyd collectables.

How Much is Your Pink Floyd Memorabilia Worth?
From Pink Floyd records to posters, we’re always looking for interesting memorabilia to include in our next monthly Pink Floyd auction. Items of value can include posters, concert tickets, records, instruments, autographed objects, photographs or other pieces of exciting merchandise. In order to determine if your memorabilia could be worth money, ask yourself these questions: Is your item special? Is the item hard to find? Is it something which other people might want to pay money for?

There are some additional important factors our auctioneers consider when assessing if an item could be worth money. These include:

Rarity and Uniqueness
If it’s easy to find an object in an average store or it’s widely available online, it’s unlikely to be worth much money. Popular items at auction are usually one-offs, limited editions or old items of which only a few are left available.

Condition
If the object has stood the test of time well, it’s likely to be more valuable at auction. For example, a record should be unmarked, come complete with its sleeve also in good condition and be as close to pristine as possible. A record like this would be worth more than the same record in poorer condition.

Authenticity
Our auctioneers are only looking for genuine items. This means no reproductions, replicas or fakes. Any documents which can help prove an item’s authenticity, such as a certificate of authenticity, will increase its value.

High Value Pink Floyd Memorabilia
To help give you an idea of how much your own merchandise might be worth, we’ve combed through our previous Pink Floyd sales to hand-pick a selection of some of our favourite and most valuable items to have sold at auction. Check out the list below.

5. Pink Floyd Original Press Photo - €60
First up is this 1969 official 7x9 inch black and white press photo with "PINK FLOYD" stamped on its back. This historic print was distributed in the year Floyd released their album Ummagumma. It was sold at auction in excellent condition and picked up a good price.

4. Pink Floyd Arnold Layne Record - €150
This copy of Arnold Layne was issued for promotional purposes to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary 7-inch from 1967. It’s a 3-track record also featuring a different version of 'Interstellar Overdrive'. Due to its rarity, it’s quite the collector’s item for any Pink Floyd fan.

3. Pink Floyd Poster, Knebworth Park 1975 - €162
If you were lucky enough to see Pink Floyd perform during their peak in the 70s, you might have picked up a poster from the performance. If it’s original and not a reprint, you might be in with a chance of turning your poster into profit! This original 22x27cm coloured poster for the band's appearance at the legendary Knebworth Park 1975 festival is a good example of a superb lot.

2. Pink Floyd Poster, 't Smurf Club, Bussum, 1968 - €200
Perhaps an even rarer poster than the last one, this item has an interesting story, which is why it sold for such a good price at auction. Pink Floyd undertook a short, but intense Dutch tour in the summer of 1968. A hastily arranged deal was made for Floyd to play at a club 20 miles from Amsterdam, where American songwriter Captain Beefheart was scheduled to play. A rush release poster was printed to be used next to the Beefheart poster (which is why we can see the word "alsmede" which means "also" on the poster). In the end the Captain didn't turn up to play, but Pink Floyd did, leaving behind this very unique and rare poster.

1. RIAA Gold Award Record Award for The Dark Side Of The Moon - €750
1973’s The Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most commercially and critically successful rock albums ever. To date, the record has sold an estimated 45 million copies. Marking its early success when the smash album hit 500,000 sales, is this RIAA Sales Gold Award. It was originally given to Floyd’s bassist, Roger Waters, and therefore was very interesting to collectors at auction, swapping hands for an impressive €750.
