The founder, Ron Lando, has been in the business for some years now and he always loved creating extravagant eyewear. He was already famous for the most expensive reading glasses in the world when he teamed up with well-known jewellery designer Hugh Power. This time the job was to create the most expensive sports sunglasses ever made. Their masterpiece is handmade and each of the 100 produced required almost 50 hours of work.

4. Cartier Panthère Sunglasses - €132,000

Cartier's beautiful sunglasses, the Panthère, are another unique piece of art. The name comes from the little panther figures that lie on the arms of the glasses. The frame is made of 18K white gold, but this is not the only luxurious element. The frame is formed with 645 sapphires and 561 diamonds. The lenses have to be ordered separately so the wearer can decide whether they would like to wear them as sunglasses or regular glasses.

The Roman emperor, Nero used emerald to protect his eyes from the sun so he could better enjoy watching gladiator fights. This was the inspiration for Shiels Jewellers sunglasses which, of course, has pure gold frames with diamonds attached. The most exclusive part is the emerald lenses which took five years to acquire, shape and cut. The owners of the Australian company, Albert and Nyra Bensimon, made sure they created something special, which was in line with the vision of the founder, Jack Shiels.

Swiss luxury company Chopard is the proud creator of the world´s most expensive sunglasses. They teamed up with De Rigo Vision to bring the record holder to life. The masterpieces are all made of 60 grams of 24K gold and decorated with 51 diamonds. The arms of the glasses are made of dotted gold which gives this piece of designer eyewear a unique look.
