Mix together an interstellar teleportation device, the pyramids and a team of explorers and what do you get? 'Stargate', the 1994 sci-fi movie classic. We're proud to present an unmissable collection of the original concept art drawings from the film in our special Stargate Filmset & Character Sketches auction. Our commercial art expert, Sarah Srega, says of this special auction: 'I believe that movie fans and collectors alike will love this look behind the scenes of a Hollywood science fiction fantasy movie. This is a truly exceptional opportunity to own a piece of a cult-classic.' The auction will close on 19th February (2018), so read on to learn more about this unique opportunity.
Creating a Fantasy World
In 1994, ‘Stargate’ was a must see movie among audiences worldwide. It grossed more than double the budget at the box office, making it a big financial success for director Roland Emmerich and his main star Kurt Russell. Although the film received mixed reviews, it generated a huge fan base and inspired a TV spin off which went on to overshadow the original film. In the movie, a portal gives access to a different world far away from Earth. On that world, ancient Egyptian culture is mixed with futuristic technology - an amazing visual treat which fans will know and cherish. This beautiful world was created thanks to German production designer Holger Gross.... and what a fantastic world he constructed!

Bringing the Designs to Life
Holger Gross worked as a production designer on numerous movies including 'The Chronicles of Riddick', 'Deep Rising', 'Windtalkers', and of course, 'Stargate', just to name a few. Throughout his carer, Gross was unafraid to make his designs elaborate and captivating. And his work on 'Stargate' was no exception. For accuracy in the film's design, Egyptologists were hired to help with the hieroglyphs and even the dialogue, interpreting what the ancient Egyptian language may have sounded like. And the visual effects team did an amazing job bringing Gross' concept art to life with conservative use of CGI.
