Have you considered investing in wine? If you’re looking to buy wine at a reasonable price and make a profit in the future, why not follow the advice of someone who is an expert in the field? Patricia Verschelling, one of our in-house wine experts, has more than 10 years’ experience working with wines and the wine-selling market. Here, she brings you a list of 5 wines which are increasing in value. So get reading then start investing.
1. Le Petit Mouton 2011
Between 2012 and 2017, Petit Mouton 2011 saw a great increase in price. If the market continues this way, this could soon be a bottle worth even more. But why this wine? Although unusual weather conditions meant that 2011 was not a very good year for red Bordeaux wines, this is the first relatively 'affordable' vintage after the massive 2009 and 2010 vintages. Being the little brother of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the Petit Mouton 2011 is an investment you don’t want to miss.
2. 2012 Chateau l'Angelus
After many years of being classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B, the 2012 Chateau l'Angelus was the first vintage to receive the highest ranking of Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A. There are only 4 chateaux who’ve been granted this designation, and so to celebrate this success, the producer released their flagship wine with a special gold-engraved bottle. Although this is already a pricey bottle, a collector’s bottle such as this is an exciting wine for sure.
3. Sassicaia 2015
The 2015 vintage of Sassicaia has recently been released and so far it has received great reviews, with some even saying it’s the best Sassicaia in decades. Sassicaia is one of the leading Super Tuscan wines and has shown a steady increase in value. Compared to the somewhat overheated Premium Bordeaux market, Super Tuscans live up to their expectations and have proven to be a interesting investment in the past years.
4. 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Henri Bonneau ‘Réserve des Célestins’
Henri Bonneau was one of the most famous and high quality winemakers of the last century. He created old-school Châteauneuf wines with massive ageing potential and was considered a legend. Sadly he passed away in March 2016 leaving his ancient wine estate to his son Marcel Bonneau. 2012 was the last vintage he produced of his top cuvée ‘Réserve des Célestins’ - now making these bottles a great investment.
5. DRC, Grands Echezeaux 2006
DRC, or Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is a fantastic wine estate - one which excites and delights connoisseurs worldwide. Although the 2006 vintage was quite a difficult year in Burgundy, that didn’t stop the Grands Échézeaux from being a head-turning tipple which is now great for investment. Even though this star producer aims to sell his wines to consumers who simply want to enjoy the greatness of these wines, the short supply and high demand creates the perfect opportunity for investors.
