Spring has finally arrived! With the new season comes the desire to clear out the old and have a thorough spring clean. But before you throw anything away, you should know that your objects might be worth more than just nostalgic memories. Our team of in-house experts bring you a list of the 5 things you might have lying around your house that could be valuable. Read on to find out what they are and see if you are sitting on a gold mine!
Vinyl Records
Found a dusty box of forgotten vinyl records? You might have danced along to some classic soundtracks back in the day, but there's a chance you could be holding onto a vinyl worth big money now. Original pressings and rare records in great condition are always of interest to collectors. Do you own one of the first singles from Golden Earring? They released a single in the 60s with a b-side that had a grammar mistake in the title. The text was incorrectly translated from Dutch to English and discovered too late; the single was already pressed. It was withdrawn by the record company per demand from the band, but a few copies escaped and are now extremely valuable. Or what about a 1990s / 2000s classic that was released in limited numbers? Because it was the CD era and original vinyl 1st pressings were very expensive, some titles were reissued in the meantime and the originals were less wanted by the causal music collectors, but others remain very collectable.

The Original Nintendo
When the NES was first released in 1985, the future of gaming was altered forever. Remember the thrill of treasure hunting with Zelda? Well that nostalgic love for adventure is back and gamers are willing to pay generously for the privilege play like they did in the 80s. Other great collectables to search your attic for include Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems, the Nintendo 64 and Game & Watch sets. In early 2017 a set of handheld Game and Watches sold for €400 here on Catawiki...and we're not playing around!

Stamp Collections
Stamp collecting is often considered the ultimate hobby. There's a good chance someone you know has indulged in this pastime and perhaps this could now be a great way to make money! Look out for organised, cohesive, high-quality sets. If the set comes with a certificate of authenticity, contains a first-issue stamp or there's something particularly exciting about something in the collection, try offering it up for auction to see if it's of interest. Previously a German stamp set including an interesting variety of over 350 mint condition, used and cancelled stamps sold for €5,500 at our stamp auctions. Could this soon be you?

Vintage IKEA Furniture
While you might not expect it to be the case, if you bought IKEA furniture several years ago, it could now be worth some serious money. In the earlier days of the home goods store, there was a slower pace of production and items were produced to a higher standard with better materials. This means that IKEA's iconic clam chairs can now sell for more than €50,000 and the special ‘Nejlika’ ceramics set can be worth around €1,200 today. The vilbert chair set from 1993 sold at our Design Furniture auction for €1,300 in 2017. Perhaps it’s time to see if you’re sitting on a gold mine as well?
