During the 60s and 70s, the international off-road scene was dominated by Spanish motorcycles: Bultaco, Montesa and Ossa won an endless list of cross, enduro and trial championships. In February of 2018, Catawiki set up an exclusive auction with some of the most brilliant models - all coming from one sole owner and restored to perfection - that aroused the interest of many collectors.
Half of them were Bultaco, the other half Montesa, and a lonely, but very valuable, Ossa was the only example from the clover-leaf manufacturer. Among them were a 1972 Pursang Mk6 250, the bike US cross champion Jim Pomeroy took to victory for the first time, and two chromium-plated steel chassis 1971 Cappra MX (125 and 250 cc). Some other Enduros, Fronteras and Matadors examples from 1967 to 1978 were also featured in this auction.

On the trial side was a 1968 Sherpa T49 250, a machine that rewrote the story of this speciality when Sammy Miller won that year the first European Championship for Bultaco. Another iconic motorcycle in the auction was a 1975 Montesa Cota 247 Ulf Karlson replic, launched by the Catalan brand after the world sub-championship trial in 1974 and considered a design icon today. The respective child-sized versions, a 1974 Chispa 50 and a 1972 Cota 25, were present as well.

While the sole Ossa, an exclusive short-series (just 20 to 22 units were built) 250 DR for motoball practice in early 80s, was the only bike unsold - unbelievably just €5 short of its reserve price - all these off-road bikes found new happy owners in France, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and indeed Spain through our online Motorcycle auction, turning it into an unprecedented success with a final revenue of more than €26,000.
