It’s the dream of many little girls, and perhaps some little boys as well, to have a real princess doll. In this case dreams can come true, because from the 13th till 22th of April we have a doll made in the likeness of the Dutch Princess Amalia up for auction. It was made especially for the International Art and Dolls exhibition. The profits from the 69 cm tall doll, along with the other dolls in the auction, will go to the charity 'Make-A-Wish The Netherlands'.
The Princess Amalia Doll
Dollmaker Elena Timkaeva made the art doll of Prinses Amalia in 2018. It is the first art doll made after the likeness of the Dutch princess. The doll is 69 cm high and made of American modeling clay. The dress was handmade by the artist herself with hand painted print on Italian fabric. The shoes are made of leather and her hair of llama. Our in-house toys expert, Barbara Bieshaar, is excited to have this piece up for auction: “Elena Timkaeva is a very talented doll maker who has created dolls that resemble famous people, like the British queen and The Beatles. We are very pleased to be auctioning one of her creations for such a great cause."

International Art & Dolls exhibition
The doll could be viewed at the Dansmakers studio in Amsterdam during the International Exhibition "Art and Dolls" 2018, which took place on 14th and 15th April (2018). More than 30 artists from Russia, Ukraine, Latvia and the Netherlands brought their new work to the exhibition. This is the third time the International Art & Dolls exhibition was held, and the organisers emphasised that these dolls are not to be played around with! It's high art, which is why the dolls can go for incredible prices. On the first day of the event, the Princess Amalia doll was unveiled by the twin sisters Mylène and Rosanne Waalewijn, who won the Junior Songfestival in 2013 and are currently starring in the musical ‘Tina’.

Make a Wish
The theme of the exhibition is ‘Make a Wish.’ Artists and organisers want to raise awareness about sick children in the Netherlands and in Eastern Europe. That’s why the proceeds from the event and the auction will go to the Make-A-Wish foundation in the Netherlands, which seeks to fulfil the wishes of children with a serious, sometimes life-threatening illness.
You can find the princess Amalia doll in our special Charity auction, which also features a few other art dolls that were on display during the fair. The auction starts on Friday 13th April and closes on Sunday 22nd April 2018.
