The next time you hesitate buying Frozen figurine or a Vaiana doll for your child (or yourself), remember what you learn today about the value of your own childhood Disney toys. Keep the box and treat your toys with care – or better yet, buy an extra as an investment to be stored away safely. You surely wouldn't be the only one who kept some of their childhood toys stored away. Thirty years from now the Disney toys you purchase today might be worth thirty times more!
Condition
A very important factor that contributes to the value of your Disney toy - and any other collectible - is condition. Toys that are still in the original packing are the ones to offer up for auction. For example, a 1997 Ariel figurine from 'The Little Mermaid' in the original box sold for €220 in 2016 on Catawiki.

Timing
Sometimes the popularity of classic movies is revived without apparent reason, and sometimes a remake of the movie can reignite the market making nostalgic toys increase in value. The 2017 live-action remake of Disney’s 1991 animated film 'Beauty and the Beast' made the original Lumière figurine and the videotape highly sought-after items. So keep an eye on trends and wait for the right moment to sell your Disney toys. This 'Beauty and the Beast' teapot with cups brought €270 at auction on Catawiki in 2015, but who know what it would have been worth in 2017 after the new film's release.

Special editions
Be it whisky, vinyl records or Disney toys, collectors have a special interest in special editions. A first edition always does well, like this Woody figurine from Toy Story that sold for € 300 at auction. Sometimes toys or accessories are made in honour of a special occasion, like the Scrooge McDuck’s 50 Anniversary watch that can now be worth over €500. Limited editions are generally a great investment if you keep them in mint condition. Like this figurine of Mickey Mouse as a Jedi that sold for €220 at auction in 2016.
