In our Expert’s Choice feature, one of our in-house experts shares their favourite objects in auction. This week our posters expert, Arjan den Boer, selected 4 airline posters from our Airline Posters auction (18th May - 2nd June) that will get you in the summer spirit.
Top 4 airline posters of the auction
Getting the summer holiday feeling already? Arjan explains each poster below.

1. David Klein - Fly TWA, New-York - 1960s
The first poster in our expert's selection is from ca 1960. It's a TWA (now acquired by American Airlines) promotion for their flights to New York featuring the famous Freedom Statue amongst others. The original print, signed by artist David Klein, is now available in our auction. The printing technique is colour offset lithograph and the colours of the poster are still very bright!
2. Lucien Boucher - Air France Baleares - 1951
This poster from 1951 has a very nice, classic appearance that really takes you back in time. Not to mention the summery atmosphere created by the flowers. The poster is an advertisement for the Spanish Balearic Islands, also called the Baleares. The original poster, made by the French illustrator Lucien Boucher, is just one of the treasures you can find in the auction.
3. Henri Ott - Austria, Swissair - Circa 1958
Swiss Air chose to depict Austria as a holiday destination in the this stunning poster. It doesn't focus on a particularly sunny country, but it shows the rich culture of Austria country in a very vibrant manner. Even though it dates back to 1958, the original on-linen poster, designed by Henri Ott and printed by Jacques Bollmann AG in Zürich, is still in good condition.
4. Tielenpeters / Steenbrink - Martinair, Your wings - ca. 2002
Last, but certainly not least, is this colourful Martinair (these days part of the KLM Group) poster from the early 2000s. It shows a flight attendant wearing a tropical necklace with a globe in the background to boast that the airline could take you on vacation anywhere in the world. This mint condition poster was designed by Tielenpeters & Steenbrink.
