Most people will agree when we say that women should be able to walk through life the same way men can, yet for a large part of the world this is still far from reality. That's why Ernesto Artillo, an artist, photographer and art director from Spain, started the project 'The woman I wear' last January. For this collection, he's created more than 40 suits inspired by women. We are proud to announce that Ernesto chose to auction off 29 costumes of the collection on our platform in order to raise money for charities that promote equality and associations of women.
In his collection, Ernesto fuses the male suit with the drawn silhouette of the female body. The images on the outfits are the designer's own paintings. Both men and women have worn the costumes. The suits were used by many celebrities in Spain, from Alfred García, the singer who represented Spain at this years' Eurovision, to many actors and actresses at Los Goya (the Spanish Oscars).
The main motivation of the work is to raise awareness about the importance of equality between men and women. Ernesto hopes that people who see it will be committed to defending the social cause the project promotes. On top of that, he wants to carry out the values associated with the project.
The proceeds from the sale of these costumes will be allocated to associations of women and against inequality such as the Association of Families of Transsexual Minors, the Association Velaluz Violence of Gender, the Kirira Foundation, Gypsy Feminists for Diversity, Platform 7N and Themis Women Lawyers Association. Each costume is labeled with the name of the work, its numbering and the signature of the artist, as an unique artistic piece.
You can place bids on all the items in the auction until the 3rd of June.
