Summer is here! Now is the time to finally get yourself that classic convertible you have been longing for. We have no less than 50 to choose from in our Classic Convertible auction (13th - 28th July). There is something here for every taste, or for every wallet for that matter. Yes, making your dream come true could be more affordable than you think! Here are the highlights selected by our classic car expert.
1. Fiat 500 Jolly
The star of the show is undoubtedly the Fiat 500 Jolly. These convertibles are such a hit that Fiat themselves have just introduced a modern version of the 500 Spiaggina (designed by Lapo Elkann), 60 years after the original. Not surprisingly, because 1950s Fiat Jolly beach cars are extremely popular. So much so in fact that prices for them have skyrocketed. In our auction we have a Fiat 500 Replica Jolly Summer. It is based on an original 1969 Fiat 500 and was built by craftsmen just as they were in the day.
2. Vespa 400
Nothing is more quintessentially Italian than a Vespa - did you know they made cars as well? Well, to be honest they didn’t, the Vespa 400 was made for Vespa in France. It is a true miniature car complete with its very Italian roll-back convertible roof. It is very small, very cute and very rare!
3. Innocenti Spider
100% British yet with Italian style. Ghia is a famous Italian design house who was also responsible for the Italian version of the MG Midget, the Innocenti Spider. It is quite rare so we are very pleased to have one available in our Convertible auction.
4. Morgan 4/4
Open top motoring at its purest is best done in a British roadster. We have a wide choice in our auction: MG Midgets, Triumph Spitfires and MGBs in a number of colours. If you like your British motoring to be 'old school', then how about an MG TD? It may be the closest you can get to proper basic vintage motoring. Although much the same can of course be said of the Morgan 4/4. The one we have up for auction was built in 1979, but it could have been 1939...or 2009 as Morgan still produces these very characterful two-seaters in the old fashioned way.
5. Citroën - Lomax 224 2CV6
If you want basic pre-war style motoring in a totally different vein, check out the Lomax. It is basic, it looks like something from the 1930s yet it was conceived in the 1980s. Much of its pre-war character is derived from the mechanicals, because under the skin this is a 2CV, which makes it very affordable and cheap to run!
From the affordable to the exclusive, we have two other genuine vintage pre-war convertibles in our auction that are worth mentioning. The first is French, a very rare Amilcar type G, the other American, a fabulous Packard Super 8, formerly owned by the Kennedy family!
