1. M.C. Escher - Regelmatige Vlakverdeling - 1958
“I am alone, wandering around in the garden of tessellation.” In this book, M.C. Escher takes you on a journey to his endless tessellation addiction, where you’ll gain a unique insight into his distinctive work. Only 175 copies were made of this book, making it one of the scarcest and most sought-after publications of Stichting de Roos. This wonderful collection of Op Art includes six designs in black and white, and in red. You can find this work in our dedicated Stichting de Roos Auction.
2. A. Ortelius - Belgii Veteris Typus - 1581-1600
This beautiful hand-coloured copper engraving of the Low Countries was printed in Antwerp, in the year 1591. You can discover this, and many other historical maps, in this week’s Cartography (NL) Auction.
3. Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje - Bilder-Atlas zu Mekka - 1888
Christiaan Hurgronje was a well-respected Dutch orientalist who spent two years of his life in Arabia, back in 1884. He was one of the first non-Arabs to photograph the Hijaz, which includes Mecca. This work is the largest single illustrated monograph on Mecca of its time, marking an important era in the history of photography.
4. Leonard Rosenthal/Edmund Dulac - Au Royaume de la Perle - 1920
There’s so much to enjoy about this book. Its gorgeous Bayntun-Riviere binding is made with crushed black Morocco leather, giving it a luxury look. The contents are equally remarkable, with beautiful illustrations by Edmund Dulac. You can find this stunning work in this week’s French Literature & Illustrated Books Auction.
5. Erwin Olaf - Volume II - 2014 - Signed
In this week’s Art and Photography Auction, you can find several items from this fascinating Dutch photographer. Among these, is this stunning signed work where Olaf captures the progression to decay, in his own distinctive and fascinating way.
