Ever since its creation in 1991, the Dauphine market has become one of the most important antique markets belonging to “Les Puces”, the biggest and most famous flea markets for modern and classic antiques in the world, located in Paris-Saint-Ouen. On the 7th to 16th December, we are bringing the Dauphine market to auction. Kurt Salchli, our books expert, shares what makes this market so special.
A special auction
From 7 to 16 December Catawiki has organised, in collaboration with the Dauphine market, the first auction dedicated to the famous Parisian flea market. With a curated selection of objects and artworks, this auction aims to make the online audience live the experience of this mythical place. You can also visit the actual Dauphine market from Saturday to Monday between 9 and 18:00 and on Friday morning.

Marché aux Puces Avant-Garde
The Dauphine market was the first market to blend the traditional aspect of the “puces” (such as antiques and classical painting) with avant-garde. The FUTURO House on the central place, installed by Benoît Ramognino, design expert at Catawiki and dealer specialising in pop culture is a good example. This architect house of 60 square meters that looks like a spaceship was designed in 1968 by the Finnish artist Matti Suuronen.
Celebrity favourite
The market is a peculiar and highly specialised flea market with its antiques, art galleries, tapestry and rugs to just name a few. No wonder celebrities regularly visit it: you may encounter Sophie Marceau, Pierce Brosnan, Vanessa Seward, Rod Stewart, Alexandre de Betak or Valérie Lemercier. The market stands out from other markets by its expert bureau (CEFA) and its monthly “expert tour”, which is a documented visit around a specific theme.
