Expert’s Choice: Mark Harrison Selects the Highlights from This Week's Book and Cartography Auctions

In our Expert’s Choice feature, one of our experts shares their favourite items currently in auction. This week our Books expert, Mark Harrison, selects several exceptional items from our book and cartography auctions for you to enjoy.


1. Louis Larmat – ‘Atlas de la France Vinicole’ – Three volumes plus bonus sections- 1941/1944 - French


If you consider yourself to be a bit of a wine connoisseur, then you might truly enjoy this ‘Atlas de la France Vinicole’. This attractive, three-volume atlas covers France’s most famous vineyards, including the regions of Bordeaux, Bourgogne, and Champagne. 2. Kishin Shinoyama – ‘Fashion Eye Silk Road’ - Louis Vuitton Publication – Signed – 2018 – English, French


In our special Images of Fashion Book Auction, is this signed first edition of ‘Fashion Eye Silk Road’, that was published by Louis Vuitton. The book contains a beautiful collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Kishin Shinoyama, showing the world of fashion through the eyes of a fashion photographer.


3. Giovanni Maffei – ‘Indiarum Orientalium Occidentaliumque (…)’ – Italian world map - 1581-1600


This rare Italian world map from late 16th century shows some interesting beliefs they had at the time. For example, the map includes a prominent North West Passage in North America but has no trace of the Great Lakes. You can find this beautiful map in this week’s Exclusive Cartography Auction.


4. The Beatles - Original card signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison & Ringo Starr – 1962


It’s not often that you come across a card that is signed by all four members of The Beatles! In our Exclusive Autographs Auction is this card signed by world’s most influential music band. The autographs are examined and come with a certificate of authenticity (COA-R).


5. Abraham Ortelius – ‘ASIAE NOVA DESCRIPTIO’ - 1581-1600


This beautiful map from late 16th century depicts most of Asia surprisingly accurately. It shows many of the areas that were newly discovered when this map was created. You can find this map in excellent condition in our Exclusive Cartography Auction
