Miniature frame "The old Grognard", nostalgic for Napoleon, circa 1848, bronze medal, representing a side view soldier who is stretching the left arm. Written below in capital letters: IL M’EN RESTE ENCORE UN POUR LA PATRIE At the top is written: AU VIEUX GROGNARD
Grognard is the name given to the soldiers of the old guard of Napoleon Bonaparte. They were the most experienced of the Grand Army, but also the most loyal to the Emperor, who had dubbed them as well because they complained about their living conditions. Those soldiers were uniquely able to complain directly to the emperor.
The medal is a lot more descriptive in reality than on the pictures that I can't succeed. Actually the inscriptions and designs as the face of the character are very clear.
