The Order of Teutonic Knights (Ridderlijke Duitsche Orde), Bailiwick of Utrecht, is an old and still existing aristocratic institution dating from 1300, and only accessible for members of the Dutch Protestant nobility. The Order is a charity with a considerable property.
The rich archives of the Order contain many antique wax seals of historical institutions, knights, patricians and prominent people whose families have become partly extinct.
The author and then archivist of the Order, J.H. de Vey Mesdagh, described in the book “Liber Sigillorum” as many as 3129 wax seals with coats of arms of the Teutonic Order from the years 1200-1811.
In volume 1 the seals are described and in volume 2 they are shown in pictures.
Examples are included to get an impression.
The books have a detailed index.
The weight of both books including packaging is 2.2 kg.
Condition: near mint.
The set is obtained from an inheritance. It is a must-have item for any expert on heraldry.
