Il Dante Urbinate Della Biblioteca Vaticana (Codice Urbinate Latino 365) - 1965

Fratelli Fabbri editori, Città del Vaticano, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. In folio, original case, 40 x 25 case; 295 pages with reproductions in colour of the illuminations of the codex. Parchment with spine with three raised bands, gold title and threads on spine, gold trim on the plates. Facsimile reproduction on the occasion of the 7th centenary of the birth of the great poet, one of the most famous and charming of Dante's manuscripts. Artistic elements and literary knowledge make of this illuminated manuscript for Federico da Montefeltro (deposited in the Vatican Library, which inherited the library from the Montefeltros) a priceless masterpiece, great tribute to the genius of Dante. The illuminations (attributed to Giraldi - 1478) illustrate the individual cantos, small simple images that stand apart from the sumptuousness of the rich ornamentation of the title pages; great sophistication in the compositions of medallions, ovals and friezes with quotes related to classical culture, Montefeltro coat of arms within a colonnade (in the large miniature of the door of Heaven) a motif that had already appeared in the Bible of Borso D'este. Copy no. 0396 of 1190 copies. Colophon: This work is published by the Vatican Library in the seventh centenary of the birth of Dante printed in 1190 copies, December MCMLXV. In excellent condition. Shipping: tracking code, protective packaging.
