A Victorian oil on millboard depicting a Thames paddle steamer or packet boat at late evening as the sun sets. Very dramatic with the shafts of sunlight and the vermilion colours in the sky. The paddle steamer looks very much the same as in Turner`s `Fighting Temeraire` This is probably the lower reaches of the Thames - Medway or Sheerness area. Signature lower left under mount which is W.A.Smith, a London landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in the 1880`s, which is only about 40 years after Turner was active. New double ingres mount and antique swept frame which has been regilded. Glazed and ready to hang. Size of image 28 x 13cms, frame 51 x 34cms. Good condition- Cleaned and revarnished. Shipping by insured courier.
