Two 17th century very detailed copper engravings of Bavaria and Saxony.
1. Comitatus Mansfeldia (1630)
Size: 29 x 50 cm.
Condition: fair. The map has a number of (restored) worm holes along the centre fold with some loss of image. At the bottom of the centre fold the paper was reinforced with old paper. Text on back in German.
Large copper engraving of Sachsen Anhalt by Hondius. A title cartouche, a coat of arms and a mile stick. The map shows the area between Halle a.d. Saale, Ascherleben, Walkenried and Heidrungen in the middle Mansfeld. Published in 1630 in a German edition of the Mercator-Hondius atlas.
2. Bavaria Ducatus (1630)
Size: 18.5 x 25.5 cm. (on page: 21 × 27.5 cm).
Condition: fair to good. Tanned with some light circles in the upper margin and a couple of brown dots. Hand-coloured. Wide margins, thick paper. Hand-coloured. Text on the back in French.
Map of the county of Bavaria (roughly the eastern half of the contemporary State of Bavaria), with cities such as Passau and Regensburg with parts of surrounding areas by Mercator and Hondius, published in Amsterdam, published in 1630 by Cloppenburg "Atlas sive cosmographicae meditationes .... "
