Rare first edition. It gives an excellent insight on the cultural history of its time, covering a multitude of topics, discussing the daily life and toll, art, physical exercise etc.Guarinoius wanted to achieve with his work a healthy life-style or what he called 'Gesondt' (that is: God, eating and drinkng, slepping and being awake, excercise for the body, healthy air, releave for the temper etc.). Guarinoni (1571-1654) was born in Italy, but lived most of his time in Austria. His father was personal physician to Emporers Maximilian II and Rudolph II. - First 10 leaves with minor tears at the edge, occasionally some wormholes in the margins, page 445/446 with tear, page 753-756 with tears in the upper right corner, last two leaves with some pencil lines. The decorative binding a bit rubbed, two claps are missing. - VD 17, 12: 106998D; Goedeke II, 585, 21; Hayn/Gotinger II, 697.
