Beginning of 20th century - Good condition
Rare two-headed Nkisi dog statuette from Congo. A fetish said to hold great power in its body.
A nail would be hammered into the statue for each wish, both for personal use and for ceremonial use by the soothsayer-healer Nganga. These statuettes were used to stay in good health and solve problems.
Made of wood, white and red pigment (kaolin and tokula), a mixture of clay and plants, pieces of glass, metal, three mirrors, nails, two broken feet. Sacrificial remains.
