Monopoli is a town and municipality in the Italian region of Apulia, in the province of Bari. The city is of Greek origin and offered shelter to the inhabitants of the nearby Egnatia (now Anazzo) when that settlement at the end of sixth century ad was destroyed by the Goths King Totila.
