Beautiful drawing of Rie Cramer of a girl on her skies that spots a hare in the scrubs.
¶ Marie (Rie) Cramer (Java, Indonesia, 10 October 1887 – 16 September 1977, Laren) was an Illustrator, book cover designer and writer.
She grew up in Dutch East Indies. When Rie Cramer was nine, her mother took the children to the Netherlands. Rie Cramer attended the art academy in The Hague at a very young age. She started writing children's stories and making drawings. At the age of 17, she illustrated the booklet “Van meisjes en jongetjes” as an assignment.
She illustrated numerous fairy tales. In addition, she has decorated books by Nienke van Hichtum and Anna Sutorius. She was responsible for the text and illustrations of a total of 120 children’s and fairy tale books, and was the illustrator of the widely read children's magazine “Zonneschijn”. She also made drawings for the children's monthly magazine ‘Ons Thuis’ by Henriëtte Dietz and Katharina Leopold. In the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, her career was at its peak.
