Late 19th century - Antique necklace made of glass beads known as 'chevron beads of Venice'

Very old necklace made of glass, composed of 29 so-called 'chevrons of Venice' beads from the late 19th century. Beads known as chevron or rosetta beads, invented by a master glassmaker from Venice in the 16th century, had a great value due to the complexity of their manufacture. The beads have a section that shows a 12-point star pattern. Most commonly, they are made up of several layers around a central axle. In Africa, these beads had a magical value which was due to the "allusion of the 12 points of the star to the signs of the zodiac". The largest beads were reserved for the kings and nobles. They were potentially a part of marriage ceremonies and they are found in tombs. Today, these beads are very sought after. Weight: 263 g Measurements: 60 cm Measurements of the beads: 3 x 2.3 cm for the largest to 1 x 0.8 cm for the smallest Shipped via Colissimo with tracking and insurance.
