GIOVANNI  DE MARTINO was born in Naples in January 1870.
He trained at the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples under the guidance of Stanislaus list, Gioacchino Toma and Achille D'Orsi, by the latter learns the ability to portray the details more verismo using them on the very young. He lived in Paris where he painted sculptural groups small and where, in 1900 won a prize with the bronze sculpture Fisherman locusts.
Returning to Naples, he produced sculptures depicting characteristic types of Naples, especially boys and young fishermen, individuals already much loved by his teacher Achille D'Orsi and Vincenzo Gemito
De Martino died in Naples in 1935
