ALF is an American television/comedy series that ran from 1986 to 1990 and was created by Paul Fusco.

The series was a great success in the United States and then an even bigger success in many European countries such as Poland and Germany. In Germany the series was so popular that the ‘made for tv’ movie was shown in the cinemas under the title ‘Alf der Film’. In the Netherlands, the series was broadcast by TROS, RTL5 and Veronica.

The show, features Alf, an alien that has fled his home planet Melmak because it was about to explode. He follows the radio signal of an amateur radio station with his spaceship and this is how he ends up on Earth. There his space ship crashes into the garage of the Tanner family.  Because Alf cannot return to Melmak, he becomes a member of the family. The cat of the Tanner family, called Lucky, is no longer certain of his life as cats are a delicacy on Melmak. Fortunately for Lucky, Alf gets  more respect for him later in the series.

Because the family keep Alf’s existence a secret, lots of comedic situations arise. Especially the spontaneous visits of the neighbours, the Ochmonek family, provide a lot of hilarity. Alf usually hides in the kitchen when people come to visit.
