A rare underglaze blue decorated early Kangxi vase ca. 1690-1700, in lobed quatrefoil form, with 2 re-modelled handles. Marked at the bottom with a symbol mark Artemisia leaf, as 1 of the Daoist precious objects. Decoration consists of 4 large panels containing the 4 seasonal flowers such as: Peony (Spring), Lotus flower (summer), Chrysanthemum (Autumn) and plum blossom (Winter). The panels are divided through narrow strap bands with at the top and bottom ruyi symbols meaning: “as you wish”. At the base a spiral band. Just below the top rim there is a band with zigzag motif, which is typical and common on Kangxi porcelain. The re-modelled handles have the form of a snake, eating his own tail (endless). An identical vase is in the collection of the “Landesmuseum” in Germany, inv.nr. OP144.
Condition: The vase is in good condition considering it’s age, but the handles are re-modelled/restored in a professional way. There are 2 small rim-frits and age related wear at the foot ring. No hairlines. Please see pictures.
Size: Height 21,5cm, width 10cm.
