c. 1940, Italy
Beautiful sculpture signed by Giuseppe Granello, a ceramist who collaborated with the Cacciapuoti manufactory between 1925 and 1953.
During those years the manufactory, in the person of Guido Cacciapuoti, reached the highest point of its sophisticated manufacture of animal figurines in Milan, in collaboration with talented ceramic artists, including Granello. The manufacture stopped in 1953, after Guido’s death.
Cacciapuoti ceramics, especially those depicting animals, are exhibited in several Italian and international museums due to their high quality. Many Cacciapuoti ceramics and sculptures are featured in sculpture and ceramic publications about the 20th century in Italy.
It represents two polar bears, beautifully painted, and rich in detail.
The signatures G. Granello e Cacciapuoti are engraved on the belly of one of the bears.
One bear is 3.5 cm long, another 5.5 cm long
