Mid-20th century, Italy
Lovely sculptures, both made by the Cacciapuoti manufactory in the 1940s/50s.
During those years the manufactory, in the person of Guido Cacciapuoti, reached the highest point of its sophisticated manufacture of animal figurines after moving from Naples to Milan, in collaboration with talented ceramic artists. The manufacture stopped in 1953, after Guido’s death. 1940s/1950s.
Cacciapuoti ceramics, especially those depicting animals, are displayed in several Italian and international museums due to their high quality. Many Cacciapuoti ceramics and sculptures are featured in sculpture and ceramic publications about the 20th century in Italy.
The first sculpture depicts two birds while the second portrays two owls standing on antique books.
Both are wonderfully painted, colourful and rich with details, as well as in excellent condition.
Birds sculpture measurements: H 4 cm, L 5 cm.
The owls sculpture is signed by G. Salemi and Cacciapuoti. The signatures are engraved on the book spines. Measurements: H 6.5 cm, L 4 cm.
