|Book Title:||Magnificat: lofzang van Maria|
|Number of Books:||0|
|Binding/ Material:||Loose page|
Gilt-illuminated book of hours leaf on vellum, with border decoration of red and blue wildflowers and acanthus leaves on a gilded background. The initials are gilt-heightened, in purple-blue frames.
On the verso at the large initial M begins the Magnificat, the song of praise of Mary. It can be found in Luke 1: 46-51
Leaf fragment from a French book of hours that was used by rich people for their daily prayers. It was written by hand around 1475.
The vellum is slightly stained at the edges and at the 3 bottom lines; this was caused by people turning the pages for centuries. The edge was painted red when the book was made. The gold leaf still looks as new.
With 16 handwritten lines in brown ink. The initials are gilt-heightened on a blue and red background with white shading. Two blue words: “a” for antiphon and “canticum”, a hymn from the Bible. Four rectangular and two oval line fillers, with various patterns.
Leaf size: 15.5 × 11 cm. Type page: 8.7 × 8.4 cm, with border decoration.
In very good condition.
Will be sent insured up to €500.
