In the seventies of the 20th century, it was bought from a fisherman who got the thing in his nets. In that period the dike between Enkhuizen and Lelystad was made and probably during that work the canon came to lay bare, after which the fisherman accidentally got it in his nets.
The cannon has the iron wedge that was struck behind the loose chamber, and also the lead bullet (diameter 30.7 cm, 149 gram), that was put just in front of the chamber. It is 193 cm long and weighs about 80 kilograms. The fork with the point with which it was placed on the railing, is lost, but the impression in the rust was still there. A plaster cast was made of that. 

A cannon of this age is seldom offered for sale, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire a rare piece of medieval history. 
The drawing represents a similar canon, that was found in the Haarlemmermeer (near Schiphol) and is now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Due to the weight, the buyer has to make arrangements for the shipping.

This type of small caliber cannon was aimed through the use of a wooden handle attached to the breech of the weapon. They were used principally aboard sailing ships, due to their small caliber and short range they were used as anti-personnel ordnance. They were especially useful against boarding parties and against deck gun crews when ships were hull-to-hull. Due to their relatively small size, swivel guns were highly portable and could be moved around the deck of a ship much more easily than other types of cannon. The small size of swivel guns enabled them to be used by a wide variety of vessels, including those too small to accommodate larger cannons and also on land.
