Japanese Arita chawan from the mid-Edo era (1760-90). It is decorated in underglaze blue with birds and flowers. On the inside a "kirin" (a mythical Japanese animal, cousin to the Chinese "Qilin").
Diameter 11.5 cm, height 9 cm, illegible mark. Very good condition.
