In good condition
Nice copper wind-vane, depicting a rider on horseback. The design is very quirky and the proportions are to be described as caricatural. He stands on a black painted wooden base. Weight 1170 gram, height 50 cm width 45 cm
This weather-vane was acquired at an antique fair in The Hague, together with a weather-vane of similar making, but depicting a 17th century three mast ship.
The rider on horseback of this weather-vane looks a lot like the rider on horseback on Dutch silver coins, for example the so-called snaphaanschelling. Those coins were used in the 16th and 17th century.
So both weather-vanes have a 17th century look about them. If both weather-vanes were indeed made in the 17th century is the question. It is very well possible that they were made centuries later, perhaps at the end of the 19th century.
